Introducing Makayla Paige Lane
American Classical Soprano

Makayla Lane is a Boston-based soprano and has recently completed a Bachelor of Music at University of Rhode Island. She has since begun her Graduate education at Longy School of Music of Bard College.

Makayla was awarded First Place in the Lower College Classical Division when competing in the Rhode Island NATS Student Auditions in 2019. Ms. Lane was the recipient of the Kingstown Chamber Music Festival Award and Scholarship in Spring 2021 and was incredibly honored to achieve such an accolade. In the fall of 2023 Mrs. Lane performed the role of The Dew Fairy in Hänsel und Gretel conducted by Maestro Cailin Marcel Williams and in the spring of 2023 was Actress #3 in “A… My Name Is Alice: A Musical Review”. In the fall of 2022, she made her role debut as Pamina in the Magic Flute with URI’s Opera Workshop accompanied by the Warwick Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestra Catherine Gagnon. In Spring 2021, Makayla was a featured soloist with the URI Symphony Orchestra, singing Handel’s “Let the Bright Seraphim” conducted by Maestra Ann Danis.
Ms. Lane is a dynamic musician who has sung various styles ranging from chamber music, opera, oratorio, musical theater, contemporary, and art song. Her operatic scene highlights have included solos and duets of Susanna’s from The Marriage of Figaro, Mabel from The Pirates of Penzance, Josephine from H.M.S. Pinafore, Bonnie from Bonnie and Clyde, and Rosalinda from Die Fledermaus. She also participated in Concert Choir, University Chorus, vocal chamber ensembles, and orchestra as a principal violinist. She also takes great artistic pride in participating backstage in tech and management roles for musical theatre and opera productions. Her most recent backstage work has been as the Assistant Director and Assistant Stage Manager for Longy’s double bill of Antigone by Kallembach and Phoebus und Pan by J.S. Bach and as the Assistant Stage Manger for Boston Opera Collaborative’s Opera Bites.
Makayla has worked with esteemed coaches and teachers including Margaret Frazier, Julie M. Andrews, Dr. David Gilliland, Dr. Corrine Byrne, Dr. Libor Dudas, Noriko Yusada, Ryan Turner, and Angela Gooch.
